Foraging and Natural Dyeing with Salish Weaver Myrna Crossley-Elliott
We spent an afternoon with artist and Salish weaver Myrna Crossley-Elliott to learn about dyeing wool with natural materials from the island. We began with a forest walk in Campbell Bay to gather dye materials, then convened at the Agricultural Hall where Myrna demonstrated her natural dye process, showed us a myriad of naturally dyed wools used in her Salish weaving practice, and talked about the history of Salish weaving and her own involvement in this work.
